Price-Action CandlesWhat is a swing high or swing low?
Swing highs and lows are price extremes. For example say we set our swing length to 5. A candle that is a swing high with a swing length of 5 will have 5 bars to the left that are lower and 5 bars to the right that are lower. A candle that is a swing low with a swing length of 5 will have 5 bars to the left that are higher and 5 bars to the right that are higher.
How are the trend candles calculated?
The trend candles are calculated by storing and comparing historical swing lows and swing highs.

What does that gibberish mean?
-Candle can be GREEN IF
- We have a higher high (current swing high is greater than the previous swing high) and the high is greater than the previous swing high
- OR The current close is greater than the current swing high
-Candle can be RED IF
- We have a lower low (current swing low is less than the previous swing low) and the low is less than the previous swing low
- OR The current close is less than the current swing low
-Candle can be YELLOW IF
- We have a new swing high and the new swing high is less than the previous swing high
- OR We have a new swing low and the new swing low is greater than the previous swing low
If none of the conditions above are true then we continue with whatever color the previous bar was.
What is repainting?
Repainting is "script behavior causing historical vs realtime calculations or plots to behave differently." That definition comes directly from Tradingview. The price-action candles use swing highs and swing lows which need bars to the left (past) and bars to the right ("future") in order to confirm the swing level. Because of the need to wait for confirmation to for swing levels the plot style can be repainting. With the price-action candles indicator the only repainting part of the indicator is the labels. The price-action candles themselves WILL NOT REPAINT. The labels however can be set to repaint or not depending on the user preference. If the user opts to use repainting then the label location is shifted back by the length of the price-action. So if the "Price-Action Length" input is set to 10, and the user wants repainting, the swing high/low label will be shifted back 10 bars. If the user opts for no repainting, the label will not be shifted and instead show on the exact bar the swing level was confirmed.

All green and red candle calculations are based on differences between open and close prices, as such I have made no attempt to account for green candles that gap lower and close below the close price of the preceding candle, or red candles that gap higher and close above the close price of the preceding candle. This may cause some unexpected behaviour on some markets and timeframes. I can only recommend using 24-hour markets, if and where possible, as there are far fewer gaps and, generally, more data to work with.
If the lines do not draw or you see a study error saying that the script references too many candles in history, this is most likely because the higher timeframe anchor point is not present on the current timeframe. This problem usually occurs when referencing a higher timeframe, such as the 1-month, from a much lower timeframe, such as the 1-minute. How far you can lookback for higher timeframe anchor points on the current timeframe will also be limited by your Trading View subscription plan. Premium users get 20,000 candles worth of data, pro+ and pro users get 10,000, and basic users get 5,000.

Draws a semi‐transparent red box from the bar two bars ago at high down to the current bar’s low.

5. Inversion (Fill) Detection & Entry Signals
An inversion is defined as the price “closing through” that previously drawn FVG:
Bullish Inversion (bullInversion)
Occurs when a bullish FVG was identified on bar-2 (bullFVG), and on the current bar the close is greater than that old bar-2 low:

Bearish Inversion (bearInversion)
Occurs when a bearish FVG was identified on bar-2 (bearFVG), and on the current bar the close is lower than that old bar-2 high:

In Practice

📌 Key functions
1. Search pivot high and pivot low points in a certain length of price.
2. Connect pivot high to pivot high , pivot low to pivot low , forming two standards for divergence in result.
The marker then plots only the higher high, lower low lines.

Developing the indicators, we put a lot of effort in making a customizable and user-friendly interface.
#1. Pivot Setting
Users can set the length to find the pivot high / pivot low in ‘Pivot Settings – Pivot Length.’
Increased pivot Length takes more candles to interpret the chart but reduce false signals since the it uses only the most certain pivot high / pivot low values. Obviously, decreased pivot length will act the opposite.
Users can choose whether to use ‘High/Low’ or ‘Close’ in ‘Pivot Reference’ to set the swing point of prices.
Users can also choose whether to display the pivot high / pivot low marker on the chart.
#2 RSI & CMF Settings
Users can adjust the length of RSI & CMF separately. (The default values are set to 14 and 20 each.)
#3 Label Setting
Users can adjust the text displayed on the chart label. (The default values is set to ‘Bullish / Bearish’, ‘RSI/CMF’, ‘Divergence’.)
Users can reduce the length of text label or simply turn the label off. Just click the ‘Bull/Bear’ or ‘None’ button. ‘Divergence’ works the same.
Users can decide whether to display the ‘Divergence Line and Label’, set custom settings for the label and line. (color, thickness, style, etc)

#1 Pivot Setting

Pivot Length를 줄일 경우, 반대로 Swing High/Low의 판정이 더 빨리 일어나기 때문에, Signal을 거래에 이용하기는 좋을 수 있습니다. 다만, Swing High와 Low가 훨씬 더 잦은 빈도로 발생하기 때문에 False Signal을 줄 가능성이 높아집니다.
Pivot Reference에서는 가격의 Swing Point를 설정함에 있어, High/Low(고가/저가)를 이용할 지 Close (종가)를 이용할 지 선택할 수 있습니다.
Pivot High/Low Marker를 선택할 경우 Pivot High/ Low에 Marker가 찍히게 됩니다.

For each selected timeframe, the script detects S/R levels using:

Fib (Fibonacci): Key retracement levels (0.236, 0.382, 0.5, 0.618, 0.786) over the last 50 bars.
Bull OB / Bear OB: Institutional price zones based on bullish/bearish engulfing patterns.

2. Level Clustering
Levels within a user-defined % distance are merged into a single “zone.”
Each zone records which methods and timeframes contributed to it.

Reactions: The number of times price has touched or reversed at the zone in the recent past (user-defined lookback).
4. Filtering & Sorting
Only zones within a user-defined % of the current price are shown (to focus on actionable areas).

Do note that in this script these are subject to backpainting, that is they are not located where they are detected.
The detection of swing points and the unique feature of this script rely exclusively on price action, eliminating the need for numerical user-defined settings. The process begins with detecting short-term swing points:
Short-Term Swing High (STH): Identified as a price peak surrounded by lower highs on both sides.
Short-Term Swing Low (STL): Recognized as a price trough surrounded by higher lows on both sides.
Intermediate-term and long-term swing points are detected using the same approach but with a slight modification. Instead of directly analyzing price candles, previously detected short-term swing points are utilized. For intermediate-term swing points, short-term swing points are analyzed, while for long-term swing points, intermediate-term ones are used.

I built Trend Friend to stop redrawing the same trendlines all day. It automatically connects confirmed swing points (fractals) and keeps the most relevant lines in front of you. The goal: give you clean, actionable structure without the guesswork.
What it does (in plain English)
Finds swing highs/lows using a Fractal Period you choose.
Draws auto-trendlines between the two most recent confirmed highs and the two most recent confirmed lows.
Colours by intent:
Lines drawn from highs (potential resistance / bearish) = Red
Lines drawn from lows (potential support / bullish) = Green
Keeps the chart tidy: The newest lines are styled as “recent,” older lines are dimmed as “historical,” and it prunes anything beyond your chosen limit.
Optional crosses & alerts: You can highlight when price closes across the most recent line and set alerts for new lines formed and upper/lower line crosses.
Structure labels: It tags HH, LH, HL, LL at the swing points, so you can quickly read trend/rotation.
How it works (under the hood)
A “fractal” here is a confirmed pivot: the highest high (or lowest low) with n bars on each side. That means pivots only confirm after n bars, so signals are cleaner and less noisy.
When a new pivot prints, the script connects it to the prior pivot of the same type (high→high, low→low). That gives you one “bearish” line from highs and one “bullish” line from lows.
The newest line is marked as recent (brighter), and the previous recent line becomes historical (dimmed). You can keep as many pairs as you want, but I usually keep it tight.
Inputs you’ll actually use
Fractal Period (n): this is the big one. It controls how swingy/strict the pivots are.
Lower n → more swings, more lines (faster, noisier)
Higher n → fewer swings, cleaner lines (slower, swing-trade friendly)
Max pair of lines: how many pairs (up+down) to keep on the chart. 1–3 is a sweet spot.
Extend: extend lines Right (my default) or Both ways if you like the context.
Line widths & colours: recent vs. historical are separate so you can make the active lines pop.
Show crosses: toggle the X markers when price crosses a line. I turn this on when I’m actively hunting breakouts/retests.
Reading the chart
Red lines (from highs): I treat these as potential resistance. A clean break + hold above a red line often flips me from “fade” to “follow.”
Green lines (from lows): Potential support. Same idea in reverse: break + hold below and I stop buying dips until I see structure reclaim.
HH / LH / HL / LL dots: quick read on structure.
HH/HL bias = uptrend continuation potential
LH/LL bias = downtrend continuation potential
Mixed prints = rotation/chop—tighten risk or wait for clarity.
My H1 guidance (fine-tuning Fractal Period)
If you’re mainly on H1 (my use case), tune like this:
Fast / aggressive: n = 6–8 (lots of signals, good for momentum days; more chop risk)
Balanced (recommended): n = 9–12 (keeps lines meaningful but responsive)
Slow / swing focus: n = 13–21 (filters noise; better for trend days and higher-TF confluence)
Rule of thumb: if you’re getting too many touches and whipsaws, increase n. If you’re late to obvious breaks, decrease n.
How I trade it (example workflow)
Pick your n for the session (H1: start at 9–12).
Mark the recent red & green lines. That’s your immediate structure.
Look for interaction:
Rejections from a line = fade potential back into the range.
Break + close across a line = watch the retest for continuation.
Confirm with context: session bias, HTF structure, and your own tools (VWAP, RSI, volume, FVG/OB, etc.).
Plan the trade: enter on retest or reclaim, stop beyond the line/last swing, target the opposite side or next structure.
Alerts (set and forget)
“New trendline formed” — fires when a new high/low pivot confirms and a fresh line is drawn.
“Upper/lower trendline crossed” — fires when price crosses the most recent red/green line.
Use these to track structure shifts without staring at the screen.
Good to know (honest limitations)
Confirmation lag: pivots need n bars on both sides, so signals arrive after the swing confirms. That’s by design—less noise, fewer fake lines.
Lines update as structure evolves: when a new pivot forms, the previous “recent” line becomes “historical,” and older ones can be removed based on your max setting.
Not an auto trendline crystal ball: it won’t predict which line holds or breaks—it just keeps the most relevant structure clean and up to date.

Works on any timeframe; I built it with H1 in mind and scale to H4/D1 by increasing n.
Pairs nicely with session tools and VWAP for intraday, or with supply/demand / FVGs for swing planning.

The indicator “Smart Structure Breaks & Order Blocks” detects market structure using swing highs and lows, identifies Break of Structure (BOS) events, and automatically draws order blocks (OBs) from the origin candle. These zones extend to the right and change color/outline when mitigated or invalidated. By formalizing and automating part of discretionary analysis, it provides consistent zone recognition.

• This indicator has been optimized to be applied for 1 hour-charts. However, the underlying principles of this strategy are supply and demand in the financial markets and the strategy can be applied to all timeframes. Daytraders can use the 1min- or 5min charts, swing-traders can use the daily charts.
• This strategy has been designed to identify the most promising, highest probability entries and trades for each stock or other financial security.
• The combination of the qualifiers results in a highly selective strategy which only considers the most promising swing-trading entries. As a result, you will normally only find a low number of trades for each stock or other financial security per year in case you apply this strategy for the daily charts. Shorter timeframes will result in a higher number of trades / year.
• Consequently, traders need to apply this strategy for a full watchlist rather than just one financial security.
